Drift Chatbot: Salesloft Acquisition and Shutdown
Drift is a conversational marketing product for B2B sales teams. Its chat runs on the websites of the companies that use it. Salesloft bought Drift in 2024, and in March 2026 Clari + Salesloft announced that Drift will be shut down gradually. If your site still loads Drift, plan a replacement and make sure that no old Drift tokens stay active.
Ownership and shutdown
These are the main changes, with their sources:
| Date | Change |
|---|---|
| February 2024 | Salesloft acquired Drift. Forrester analyzed the deal in What Salesloft’s Acquisition Of Drift Means on February 13, 2024. |
| August 2025 | Salesloft and Clari announced an agreement to merge (Salesforce Ben report). The company now uses the name Clari + Salesloft. |
| March 5, 2026 | Clari + Salesloft announced a gradual sunset of Drift. It refers existing Drift customers to 1mind, a company that makes AI agents for sales, as the successor. |
The Drift web address drift.com now redirects to a Salesloft page that says “We’ve transitioned from Drift to 1mind.” The announcement gives no end date for Drift.
The 2025 security incident
Google Threat Intelligence described the incident in Widespread Data Theft Targets Salesforce Instances via Salesloft Drift. From August 8 to at least August 18, 2025, an attacker used stolen OAuth tokens of the Drift app. With them, the attacker took data from the Salesforce instances of customers. The attacker also used tokens of Drift Email to read email in a small number of Google Workspace accounts.
On August 20, 2025, Salesloft and Salesforce revoked all active access and refresh tokens for the Drift app. Google advised all Drift customers to treat every authentication token that is stored in or connected to Drift as possibly compromised.
What a site owner can do
Drift is a chat tool that a company adds to its own site. It is not a crawler, and no Drift user agent or robots.txt token is documented. There is nothing to block in robots.txt.
If your site still uses Drift, do these steps:
- Ask Clari + Salesloft for the end date of your Drift service.
- Choose a replacement chat tool and remove the Drift code from your pages.
- Make sure that you revoked and rotated each token, API key and password that is connected to Drift.
- Remove the Drift connections that you no longer use from your CRM and email systems.
