## What Duolingo Max does

Duolingo introduced Max on March 14, 2023, in the blog post [Introducing Duolingo Max](https://blog.duolingo.com/duolingo-max/). The post gives these facts:

- Max uses GPT-4 from OpenAI.
- Roleplay lets learners practice conversations with characters in the app.
- Video Call lets learners speak with the character Lily.
- The post also shows Explain My Answer, a chat about a learner's answer.
- Humans write the scenarios that learners see in Roleplay.
- Max is available on iOS and Android.

The post names the courses for each feature. English speakers who learn Spanish, French, German, Italian or Portuguese get both Video Call and Roleplay. Learners of Japanese, Korean and Chinese get Video Call.
