Jasper Chat: How Jasper AI Reads Web Pages
Jasper Chat is the chat assistant in Jasper, a marketing AI platform from Jasper AI. Jasper fetches a web page when a user gives it a URL, and its Research Agent links to sources. Jasper does not publish a crawler user agent, IP list or robots.txt token, so you cannot target it with a specific rule.
What Jasper Chat does
The Jasper Chat page says that Jasper Chat is trained for marketing use cases. It uses the company knowledge and brand guidelines that a customer adds to Jasper. Jasper Chat also works in a Chrome extension.
How Jasper reads web pages
The Jasper help center describes three features that read web pages:
- Brand Voice. A user can enter a URL so that Jasper learns the voice of a brand. Jasper says that it “crawls your website to find an adequate amount of text” for this (Brand Voice).
- Knowledge Base. A user can add a URL as a knowledge item. When a generation uses that item, Jasper accesses the page for that generation. The page can be a cached copy up to two days old (Knowledge Base).
- Research Agent. In a Chat window, the Research Agent gathers information for a report and cites its sources with links. Users can follow the links to make sure that the claims are correct (Research Agent).
Jasper does not say which search service the Research Agent uses.
User agents and blocking
A user agent is the client name in the User-Agent HTTP header. As of October 2026, the Jasper help center documents no user agent, IP list or robots.txt token for these requests. So no documented robots.txt rule applies to Jasper.
If you see requests that you do not want, block them on your web server, CDN or firewall. Use the user agent or IP address from your own logs. A user agent alone does not prove who sent a request, because any client can copy it. To find AI traffic in your logs, see how to find and block AI crawlers.
