Khanmigo: Khan Academy AI Tutor and Web Access
Table of Contents
Khanmigo is the AI tutor and teaching assistant from Khan Academy, a nonprofit education organization. It works inside Khan Academy pages. Khan Academy documents no web search, crawler or user agent for Khanmigo, so a site owner has nothing specific to allow or block.
Where Khanmigo works
The Khan Academy help center lists the places where people use Khanmigo:
- Khan Academy content pages, through an icon in the bottom right corner
- The Learner Home and the teacher dashboard
- Khan Academy in a mobile browser
- The Khan Academy app, with a smaller set of features
When teachers use Khanmigo tools on a content page, the tools pull in data from that page. Khanmigo is not available on quizzes, unit tests, course challenges and mastery challenges.
Web access
The help center does not say that Khanmigo searches the web or opens outside pages. The article on language models says that these models learn from large amounts of text, such as books, websites and articles. It also tells learners to compare the answers with other sources, because the model can make mistakes.
Khanmigo Lite in ChatGPT
Khanmigo Lite is a smaller version of Khanmigo. Its privacy notice says that it runs as custom GPTs on the OpenAI platform, so the OpenAI policies apply.
The OpenAI crawler page says that ChatGPT or a custom GPT can visit a web page with the ChatGPT-User agent. This happens when users ask it a question. A user agent is the client name in the User-Agent HTTP header. For this agent and how to block it, see the ChatGPT-User guide.
