# Mistral Le Chat (Now Vibe): Web Search and User Agents

> Mistral renamed Le Chat to Vibe in May 2026. How Vibe searches the web and cites sources, and how to allow or block its two user agents.

Le Chat is the AI assistant from Mistral AI, a French AI company. On May 28, 2026, the company renamed Le Chat to Vibe. Vibe can search the web and open web pages, and it links to its sources. Two crawlers with their own robots.txt tokens serve Vibe, so you can allow or block each one.

This page is about the assistant. For the language models behind it, see the [models guide](/ai-chat-bot/mistral/).

## Le Chat is now Vibe

The company announced the change in [Vibe gets to work](https://mistral.ai/news/vibe-agent/): "Le Chat is now Vibe." Users keep their plan, history and settings. The [help center](https://help.mistral.ai/en/articles/682992-le-chat-is-now-vibe) says that chat.mistral.ai still opens the app with the same login. Vibe has three modes: Work, Code and Chat. The company says that it will soon remove Chat mode and keep the old Le Chat history in Work mode.

## How Vibe uses the web

Le Chat got web search with citations on November 18, 2024 ([announcement](https://mistral.ai/news/mistral-chat)). In Vibe, the [Search the web](https://docs.mistral.ai/vibe/work/web-search-open-url) documentation describes two features:

- Web search finds current information on the web to answer a prompt. The user turns it on in Tools. Without it, Work mode cannot browse the web.
- Open URL reads one page that the user pastes into the chat. It does not crawl the site or follow links.

For news questions, Vibe also uses Agence France-Presse (AFP) and Associated Press (AP).

## How Vibe shows sources

Each answer that uses the web includes its references. Inline links point to the original pages. A Sources button under the answer opens a list of all references. A globe icon shows that the answer used web data.

## User agents for Vibe

The [crawler documentation](https://docs.mistral.ai/robots) lists two agents that serve the assistant:

| robots.txt token | What the documentation says it does | IP list |
|---|---|---|
| `MistralAI-User` | Visits a page when a Vibe user asks a question, and links to it. Not used for automatic crawling or AI training. | [mistralai-user-ips.json](https://mistral.ai/mistralai-user-ips.json) |
| `MistralAI-Index` | Crawls the web to index pages for Mistral search, which answers questions in Vibe. Not used for AI training. | [mistralai-index-ips.json](https://mistral.ai/mistralai-index-ips.json) |

The full user agent strings are:

```
Mozilla/5.0 AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko; compatible; MistralAI-User/1.0; +https://docs.mistral.ai/robots)
Mozilla/5.0 AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko; compatible; MistralAI-Index/1.0; +https://docs.mistral.ai/robots)
```

A third crawler, MistralAI-Training, collects training data for the models and has no part in Vibe answers. The [models guide](/ai-chat-bot/mistral/) covers it.

## Allow or block Vibe in robots.txt

The documentation says that these tokens let site owners control how their sites interact with Mistral AI. Each token has its own effect on Vibe:

- If you block `MistralAI-Index`, your pages stay out of the index of Mistral search, which Vibe uses to answer questions.
- If you block `MistralAI-User`, Vibe cannot open your pages when a user asks.

This group keeps your pages out of the search index but lets Vibe open a page that a user asks about:

```
User-agent: MistralAI-Index
Disallow: /
User-agent: MistralAI-User
Allow: /
```

To keep Vibe away from your site completely, disallow both tokens.

If you block these agents at the server or firewall, match the IP address and the user agent string. Use the two published IP lists above. Anyone can copy a user agent string. A MistralAI-User or MistralAI-Index request from an address outside its list is unverified.
