Poe by Quora: Web Access and Site Owner Controls

Poe is an app from Quora, Inc. that gives access to many AI bots. Most bots on Poe come from third parties, such as AI model companies and independent creators. Poe publishes no crawler, user agent or robots.txt token, so a site owner cannot target Poe directly.

What Poe is

The Poe Terms of Service are an agreement between the user and Quora, Inc. The terms say that Poe lets users access third-party bots. Poe says that it does not provide the content of these bots and is not responsible for it.

Developers can add their own bots through the Poe creator platform. One type, a server bot, runs on the creator’s own server and answers through Poe.

Web access

The default Assistant bot says that it can answer questions that need real-time information. Poe routes each query to a model from another company, based on the task and the user’s subscription.

Poe does not document how bots get web pages. It publishes no user agent string and no IP list for these requests. If a server bot reads a web page, the request comes from its creator’s server.

What a site owner can do

You cannot block Poe as a whole in robots.txt, because Poe publishes no token. If a Poe bot reads your pages, the request comes from the service that runs that bot. Look for the user agent of that service in your server logs. Then allow or block it with the rules that its operator documents.
