# Writesonic Chatsonic: Web Search, URLs and Blocking

> Chatsonic, the AI assistant from Writesonic, searches the web and reads URLs. Writesonic documents no user agent. What site owners can do.

Writesonic is a marketing software company. Its AI chat assistant, Chatsonic, can search the web in real time and read web pages from URLs that users add to a chat. Writesonic does not document a user agent for these requests, so a site owner cannot allow or block Chatsonic by name.

## Writesonic and Chatsonic

Writesonic describes its platform as a tool for GEO, AEO and AI visibility ([writesonic.com](https://writesonic.com/)). GEO and AEO are names for work that makes a brand show up in AI answers. Chatsonic is Writesonic's AI marketing agent. Its page says that it uses models such as GPT-4o, Claude and Gemini ([Chatsonic](https://writesonic.com/chat)).

## How Chatsonic uses the web

The [Chatsonic documentation](https://docs.writesonic.com/docs/chatsonic) lists real-time web search as a key feature. Users can also add a URL to a chat. The documentation says that Chatsonic can read most websites, with these exceptions:

- Web pages that restrict crawling.
- Content behind a paywall or a login.
- Pages that are mostly image, audio or video and have no text.

The documentation does not say which search service Chatsonic uses, or how it shows sources for web search answers.

## User agents and blocking

Writesonic does not document a user agent, a robots.txt token or IP ranges for Chatsonic. The documentation says only that Chatsonic does not read pages that restrict crawling. It does not say which method it checks, for example robots.txt rules or a block at the server.

Do not block all bots in robots.txt to stop one tool. A `User-agent: *` rule with `Disallow: /` also blocks search engine crawlers. If you do not want some requests in your logs, block their user agent or IP addresses in your web server or firewall.
