# Yi by 01.AI: Open Bilingual Language Models

> Yi is a family of open-weight English and Chinese language models from 01.AI. Releases, license and why site owners have no Yi bot to block.

Yi is a family of open-weight language models from 01.AI, a company founded by Kai-Fu Lee. An open-weight model is a model whose files anyone can download and run. A Yi model has no web access of its own. 01.AI documents no crawler or user agent for Yi, so a site owner has nothing to block.

## The Yi models

The [Yi GitHub repository](https://github.com/01-ai/Yi) says that 01.AI trained the models from scratch for English and Chinese. The README also says that the models use the Llama architecture. The repository and the [01.AI Hugging Face page](https://huggingface.co/01-ai) list these releases:

| Release | Date | Sizes |
|---|---|---|
| Yi base models | November 2, 2023 | 6B, 34B |
| Yi chat models | November 23, 2023 | 6B, 34B |
| Yi-VL (text and images) | January 23, 2024 | 6B, 34B |
| Yi-9B | March 6, 2024 | 9B |
| Yi-1.5 | May 13, 2024 | 6B, 9B, 34B |
| Yi-Coder (code) | September 2024 | Under 10B |

The README says that the code and weights of the Yi series are under the Apache 2.0 license. It allows personal, academic and commercial use.

## Web access

A language model takes text in and writes text out. A Yi model does not fetch pages by itself. If an app that uses Yi reads web pages, the app sends those requests. Look for the user agent of that app in your logs.

01.AI documents no crawler, user agent or robots.txt token for Yi. You do not need a Yi rule in robots.txt. For bots that do read the web for AI, see [AI Crawler Bots: Training, Search and User Fetchers](/ai-crawler-bot/introduction-to-ai-crawler-bots/).
