Daum's crawler: the Daum/4.1 and Daum-Preview user agents, the robots.txt token, the IP list, and what the older Daumoa name means.

Daumoa is a crawler name that some bot lists connect to Daum, the South Korean web portal and search engine. Daum’s current help pages do not use that name. They document the Daum crawler (Daum/4.1) for web search and Daum Preview for link previews. If you want your pages in Daum web search, allow the Daum token in robots.txt. If you do not, disallow it.

Who runs Daum

Daum is a Korean web portal with its own web search. Kakao operated Daum until December 1, 2025. On that date, Daum’s service operations moved to AXZ, a company that Kakao spun off (Korea Times). Daum’s robots help page (in Korean) names AXZ as the company that follows the robots exclusion standard when it collects pages.

Daum robots and user agents

Daum’s web search help page (in Korean) lists two robots:

Robot Purpose User agent
Daum crawler Collects pages for Daum web search Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Daum/4.1; +https://cs.daum.net/faq/service/15/category/4118/detail/28966)
Daum Preview Gets the title, description and image of a link that a user enters or shares in a Daum service Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Daum-Preview/1.0; +https://cs.daum.net/faq/service/15/category/4118/detail/28961)

Daum says that you can identify the crawler by Daum/4.1 and the preview robot by Daum-Preview. The rest of each string can change without notice.

The crawler follows links to find new pages. Daum says that it uses the pages only for web search. Daum Preview gets only the page that a user requested. It follows redirects, but it does not follow other links. It reads Open Graph meta tags from the HTML and does not run JavaScript. Daum caches the preview data for a period and does not use it for the search index.

The Daumoa name

Third-party lists such as Known Agents include Daumoa, but they cite no Daum document. Daum’s help pages do not mention Daumoa and give no date for a name change. The robots.txt token that Daum documents today is Daum. If your robots.txt has a group for Daumoa, add a group for Daum as well.

robots.txt rules for Daum

Daum says that its crawler follows the robots rules of the sites that it visits, and that it applies changes to those rules quickly. The robots.txt token is Daum, and Daum matches it without regard to case.

If you want to block the Daum crawler from your whole site, add this group:

User-agent: Daum
Disallow: /

If you want to allow it, add this group:

User-agent: Daum
Allow: /

Daum also follows the robots meta tag on a page, for example <meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow"> (Daum help, see also meta robots). Daum’s help pages give no robots.txt token for Daum Preview.

What a block changes

If you block the crawler, Daum web search does not show the content of your pages. Daum says that a blocked page can still appear with a title and a note that robots.txt prevents more details. Daum takes that title from the anchor text of links on other pages.

Verify requests

Daum publishes the IP ranges of both robots at webmaster.daum.net/crawler/daumbot.json, in CIDR format. A user agent alone is not proof, because other programs can copy it. Make sure that the source IP of a request is in that list. Download the list again from time to time, because Daum can change it without notice.

If your site does not show in Daum search, make sure that your firewall lets these addresses through. Daum gives the same advice for missing link previews. Daum also runs Daum Webmaster Tools for site owners.
