# Andi Search: AI Search Engine Facts for Site Owners

Andi is an AI search engine at andisearch.com. It answers questions in a chat format and shows the web sources that it used. We found no Andi documentation for publishers, crawlers or opt-out, so a site owner has no documented way to control how Andi uses a site.

## Who makes Andi

[TechCrunch reported in September 2022](https://techcrunch.com/2022/09/13/y-combinator-backed-andi-taps-ai-to-built-a-better-search-engine/) that Angela Hoover founded Andi with co-founder Jed White. Andi was in the Y Combinator Winter 2022 batch. At that time, Andi had raised $2.5 million.

## Status in October 2026

On October 22, 2026, [andisearch.com](https://andisearch.com/) was online. The site says that Andi gives answers instead of only links. The site also describes Andi as free, private and ad-free. We found no announcement that Andi shut down or changed its name.

## How Andi finds its sources

The 2022 TechCrunch article says that Andi takes information from web results that it ranks by relevance to the question. Hoover said that Andi gets results live from the source when it can, not from an old index. Andi does not say which search index, search provider or crawler it uses.

## Crawler, robots.txt and opt-out

We found no official Andi page that gives these facts:

- A user-agent string or a robots.txt token
- Whether Andi follows robots.txt
- IP ranges or a reverse DNS check
- A way to submit a site or to remove it

Some third-party bot lists name a crawler token for Andi. Andi does not confirm these tokens, so this guide does not list them. If you see requests in your logs that name Andi, you cannot verify them with a published IP list.

A `User-agent: *` group in robots.txt applies to every crawler that follows robots.txt and has no group of its own. It is not known if Andi obeys it. If you must block an unknown crawler, block it on your server or firewall by its IP addresses.
