# Felo AI: Multilingual AI Search and Web Access

> Felo is a multilingual AI search engine from Felo Inc. It answers from real-time web results with citations. No crawler is documented.

Felo is an AI search engine from Felo Inc. It answers questions from web search results, cites its sources and works in many languages. Felo publishes no crawler name, user agent or robots.txt rule. So a site owner has no documented way to opt in to Felo answers or out of them.

## Who runs Felo

The footer of [felo.ai](https://felo.ai/) names Felo Inc. as the owner. The Japanese company site, [official.felo.ai](https://official.felo.ai/), uses the name Felo 株式会社. It describes Felo AI Search as a multilingual AI search engine with real-time answers and source citations. Felo also offers tools to create slides, mind maps, documents and web pages.

## How Felo finds sources

Felo publishes no description of the index or crawler behind its consumer search. The closest documentation is the [Chat API](https://openapi.felo.ai/docs/api-reference/chat) for developers. It says that the API generates answers from real-time web search results in these steps:

1. It analyzes and improves the query.
2. It searches the web for relevant information.
3. It ranks and filters the search results.
4. It writes an answer from the sources.
5. It returns the answer with source citations.

The page does not name the search index, the crawler or a user agent.

## Felo Web Fetch API

Felo also sells a [Web Fetch API](https://openapi.felo.ai/docs/api-reference/web-fetch). It gets the content of one URL and returns HTML, plain text or Markdown. The caller can send a custom User-Agent string and cookies with the request. So requests through this API can carry any user agent that the caller picks.

## What a site owner can do

Felo documents no robots.txt token, IP range or contact for crawler questions. You cannot block Felo by name with a documented rule.

A `Disallow` rule in the `User-agent: *` group applies to every crawler that follows robots.txt and has no group of its own. That rule also blocks search engine crawlers that you want to keep. Felo has not said that it follows robots.txt.
