Harvey is AI software for law firms, in-house legal teams and other professional services firms. It is not a public search engine. Only Harvey customers use it. Harvey can search the web and licensed legal databases, but it documents no crawler. So there is no Harvey rule to add to robots.txt.

What Harvey is

Harvey describes itself as “AI software for legal and professional services”. Its products include Vault, which stores and analyzes a customer’s legal documents, and Knowledge, which researches legal, regulatory and tax questions. Answers can use documents that the customer uploads and the knowledge sources below.

Where Harvey gets outside information

Harvey’s help center lists its knowledge sources. A knowledge source is an outside data set that Harvey can search for an answer.

  • Web Search: “Find real-time information from trusted internet sources.”
  • Legal publishers, for example Ask LexisNexis, Wolters Kluwer, Lovdata, Otto Schmidt, Tirant lo Blanch, SCC Online and FromCounsel.
  • US Case Law, and regional public data sources for legislation, case law and regulations.

On June 18, 2025, LexisNexis and Harvey announced an alliance. The plan is to integrate LexisNexis AI technology, primary law content and Shepard’s Citations into Harvey. This content comes to Harvey through an agreement between the two companies.

What this means for a website owner

The Harvey help article about Web Search needs a customer login. In public pages, Harvey does not say which search service it uses, which crawler fetches pages or how it picks pages.

  • Harvey documents no user agent and no robots.txt token.
  • Harvey documents no way to add a site to its sources or to remove a site from them.

If your site publishes legal content, there is no Harvey-specific step to take. For a related legal research tool, see Lexis+ AI.
